Abney and Associates Internet and Technology Research Lab illustrated the importance of IP addresses. IP has the responsibility of addressing packets to be transmitted across a network or across the Internet. This means that every location on the Internet is identified by an IP address. Private networks use the same format of addressing. It is the IP address that gives the Internet Protocol its importance.
